A celebration of Art and Craft at Presentation College Headford

Applied Leaving Certificate students together with their art teacher Ms. Martin held an exhibition of Art and Craft at Presentation College Headford on Thursday 26th January 2012.

Transition Year Students also exhibited a wonderful selection of hairpins and brooches produced by their newly established company 'Layla Pearl' - fabulously Kitsch vintage-inspired handmade accessories. See www.laylapearl.weebly.com or follow them on twitter @layla_pearl.

Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery displayed a selection of items including Chirpy Bird brooches by Joanna McGlynn, Butterfly, Bird, Fish and Flower brooches by Grace Light, 'I love Galway' buttons by Berni McCabe, hand-thrown pottery by Helen Griffin, hand-built ceramics by Living Ginger Designs, crochet hairbands by Josephine Fahy, handmade natural soaps by Dr. K. Soaps, painted glassware by Denise Hogan, illustrated children's books by Mairéad Sharry and more.

The event was well attended by staff and pupils of the college who were also treated to a wonderful selection of baked treats and snacks prepared by the nine ALC2 pupils.

Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery was delighted to be invited to collaborate with Presentation College Headford to highlight art, design and craft as career choices to second level students and we look forward to seeing some new craft-enthusiasts visit us in Claregalway soon!

Tomorrow Friday 23rd of December is our last day at Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery before we close for Christmas. To celebrate Christmas we have a fantastic hamper of Galway craft worth over €150 to give away. All you have to do is drop into Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery and fill in your details on our free raffle ticket. The draw will take place on Friday 23rd at 5pm.

Felted Flowers Workshop with Knit Spin Felt

Agnieszka Rupnik of Knit Spin Felt brought a great selection of colourful merino wool for the workshop at Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery on Saturday 29th October.

Layers of wool are laid out ready for felting.

A spray of warm soapy water is added on top.

Friction is added by rubbing between layers of bubble-wrap.

And with some further manipulation we ended up with these felted flowers! These can be further embellished with beads, buttons or stitching. They can then be made into a brooch or sewn to a garment or a bag.

A big thank you to Aga for sharing her skills and knowledge with us and we look forward to her next class at Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery.

Denise Hogan Design at Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery

Galway-based artist, Denise Hogan creates a stunning range of hand-painted glass gift items. A selection of Denise's glass-ware as well as her acrylic and water-colour paintings are now available at Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery. A limited selection of oil-paintings by Joan Hogan are also available.

I've been a fan of Roger Harley's pottery since I first met him at the wonderful Christmas Craft Fair in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar. So, I was delighted to see Roger arriving this morning with a lovely selection of his work for Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery customers.

Roger's pottery workshop and shop is based in Westport and the surrounding landscape influences the colours he uses in his glazes. I can attest that his everyday Clew Bay range holds up to everyday use in a busy home while being beautiful to look at and to handle.

In addition to the Clew Bay Blue range of everyday mugs, teapot, sugar and creamer, cereal bowls and soup cups Roger has also created beautiful lamps you are sure to love.
